Steve Jobs: The Man Who Thought Different.by Karen Blumenthal

An unvarnished look at the iconic visionary behind Apple.

SYNOPSIS:

This book takes an unflinching look at the life of an icon, Steve Jobs. Using his 2005 commencement speech at Stanford University as the jumping off point, Blumenthal considers the many facets of Jobs remarkable life; his rocky start of being given up at birth for an adoption that very nearly did not take place, to his incomplete academic career, to the legendary garage invention of the first Apple computer, all the way to his final visionary legacies of the iPod, the iPad and the iPhone. Interspersed with his biography are small screenshot clips that highlight salient features of a particular episode, for example, in the chapter about the iPod, the screenshot covers what was on Jobs’ playlist. Blumenthal’s book is a highly readable, easily understandable recounting of the mercurial visionary that was Steve Jobs.
Given Jobs’ impact on modern technology and personal technology, and the fact that his creations are such an integral part of modern, daily life, it is inevitable that he will be the topic of many reports and papers in middle school and high school. Blumenthal’s background as a journalist and acclaimed children’s author is evident in this well-researched and clearly written book. It was a finalist for the 2013 YALSA-ALA Award for Excellence in Non-Fiction. It would make an excellent addition to any YA Biography collection.
